Lee Broadstock talks about his role as City Matters’ LGBTQ+ representative, his love of the Club and his experiences as an openly gay football fan.

As part of his role at City Matters, Lee works alongside his fellow elected supporters in our official fan network, engaging with senior Club representatives and sharing fans’ opinions and concerns.

It’s a position which gives him immense pride, as discussed in the above interview.

Beyond City Matters, Lee also talks in detail about the instant connection he felt with the Club after attending his first match back in 1998.

Coming for a family who predominantly followed rugby, his love of football proved to be a late bloomer, but the community aspect of Manchester City was instantly appealing to Lee.

But while he believes plenty of progress has been made in recent years around attitudes towards the LGBTQ+ community, homophobic chants can still occasionally be heard on the terraces around the United Kingdom.

Lee discusses the impact these chants have on him personally and the importance of them being left in the past.

Canal Street Blues, the Club’s LGBTQ+ Official Supporters’ Club, also form part of the conversation, with Lee a longstanding member.
