Pep Guardiola says he doesn’t believe that this season’s title race will be settled on goal difference.

For City and Liverpool to be tied after 38 games would mean both teams dropping points in the five games that remain.

Though the boss believes that is possible, he doesn’t believe the goal difference factor will come into play.

“I don’t think (it will be settled that way),” said Pep

“The points difference is one. Maybe one team will drop points - I don’t think both will. Maybe.

“But if we can score tomorrow a lot of goals then yeah. And I encourage Newcastle to score as many as possible!”

This will be the first time Guardiola has faced Leeds United since one of his esteemed mentors has left Elland Road.

Guardiola has always cited Marcelo Bielsa as a major influence on his managerial style, but the Argentine was relieved of his duties earlier this season.

Asked if he’d had time to talk since, Pep said: “No. He left immediately from Leeds and I didn’t have the opportunity.

“In summertime, we have a common friend and I know things about Marcelo though our friend.

“Marcelo has more experience than me. I read the letter the Leeds fans wrote in a newspaper in Argentina.

“These words express perfectly what he brought to Leeds- the pride.

“Marcelo, wherever he has been, Chile, Argentina, Athletico Bilbao, he always leaves a legacy of honesty. work ethic and special football.

“This is his incredible guarantee - always it happens. But football depends on results, his results were outstanding

“But then Leeds people decide. Always in football there is another opportunity tomorrow.”
