Rico Lewis says hearing Pep Guardiola praise him is ‘unbelievable’.

The 18-year-old full-back has made the most of his first season in senior football, lifting the Premier League title at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Bury-born Academy graduate Lewis has been a versatile option throughout the season and was again asked to play in a new role in midfield during the victory over Chelsea.

Guardiola has spoken at regular intervals about the effect the youngster’s attitude and willingness to learn has had on his team-mates.

Hearing his boss speak about him in such a way makes Lewis proud.

“Any piece of praise he has given me is unbelievable,” he said.

“It’s amazing to hear that from him because you never think you would be in that situation.”

On his maiden Premier League title, Lewis was almost rendered speechless by the achievement.

“It’s not really sunk in yet. Obviously it’s an amazing feeling,” he stated.

“I can’t believe it yet but it feels great. It’s nice to have played a little role in the squad and ultimately come out with a piece of silverware.”
