Rico Lewis has admitted that the 2-0 friendly victory over Girona serves as ideal preparation for the short-term future, with the Carabao Cup Round of 16 clash with Liverpool fast approaching.

Pep Guardiola admitted pre-match that the encounter was to help his players regain rhythm and perfect certain patterns of play on the pitch.

And it proved to do just that as goals from Kevin de Bruyne and Erling Haaland secured the victory at the Academy Stadium.

Lewis, who played the entire 90 minutes, feels that the match was ideal for the team to prepare for the busy fixture schedule ahead.

“Yeah, I think it was pretty good,” he said. “They’re a good level of opposition.

“With the break and stuff it’s a good game to get in before the Liverpool game and getting back in to the Premier League. It’s a good game to fill in the break.

“It’s going to be a really good game against Liverpool. It’s a really good test against one of the best teams in the world.”

The teenager also spoke about how he spent his time during the break in the domestic season, and spoke about his hopes for the remainder of the campaign.
