Instead, club captain Bernardo Silva dragged us back into the game by latching on to a Haaland header and poking past Alisson.
He carried the ball back to the halfway line and insisted on hunting for a winner, which we earned via a Haaland penalty earned after the goalkeeper had upended Matheus Nunes.
There was still drama to come, with Szoboszlai sent off for pulling Haaland back in the midst of a chase towards an open goal.
All of that meant just a third win at Anfield in the Premier League era, a first league double over Liverpool since 1936/37 and a return to a six-point deficit to leaders Arsenal.
