On this day in 2020 Manchester City scored five without reply to record a fine victory over Newcastle United.
Gabriel Jesus, Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling and David Silva were the goal scorers for Pep Guardiola’s men, with Federico Fernandez’s own goal completing the rout.
Jesus gave City the lead when he steered home Silva’s cross and Mahrez extended our advantage before half-time as he swept Kevin De Bruyne’s cutback into the bottom corner.
Matt Ritchie’s attempted clearance deflected off Fernandez for the third, before Silva netted the pick of the goals with a brilliant 20-yard free-kick.
The Spaniard then turned provider again, squaring for Sterling to wrap up a dominant display with a simple finish.
