Pep Guardiola says he will be happy to let his players decide who take spot-kicks in the event of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Aston Villa going to a penalty shoot-out.

City won last season’s Carabao Cup final thanks to a penalty shoot-out, emerging 4-3 victors over Chelsea.

A number of players have been entrusted with the responsibility of taking penalties this term, the latest being Kevin De Bruyne, who converted the match winning spot-kick in our momentous 2-1 Champions League triumph against Chelsea in midweek.

Asked at his pre-match press conference about who would decide on the penalty takers should Sunday’s showpiece final require another shoot-out, the boss was unequivocal in his response.

“Always (with penalties) I believe it is how you are in that moment,” Guardiola declared.

“At Wembley, under pressure, it is about what’s in your head. Always I like the players to decide.

“When you have doubts in your head, that is when you will miss.

“What’s important is that in your mind you are going to score. When you think that way, normally that is what happens.

“Always I like the players to take the decisions about who will take them. But the takers have to be fully committed that they will score. No negativity - not one single thought that I will miss.
