Following last season’s epic European triumph en route to the Treble, Pep Guardiola’s side entered the prestigious tournament this term as reigning champions for the first time.
Handed a place in Group G against RB Leipzig, Young Boys and Red Star Belgrade – we eased through the first phase of the competition by winning all six of our assignments.
Across those successes, we scored 18 goals and concede just seven as we collected 18 points and advanced into the knockout stages.
We were then drawn against FC Copenhagen in the last-16 before recording a strong 3-1 victory in the first leg away at Parken Stadium.
City then beat the Danish champions in the second leg at the Etihad Stadium by the same scoreline to earn a 6-2 aggregate success and set up a mouth-watering quarter-final meeting with Real Madrid.
Our tie with Los Blancos represent the third successive time we will have met the Spanish outfit in the knockout stages of the competition – starting with the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday 9 April.
