Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte has expressed his delight at making his first appearance at the Etihad Stadium since last August.

The defender was handed a starting role by manager Pep Guardiola against West Ham United and helped the team to a 2-0 victory.

Laporte made his long-awaited return to the City team after his knee injury during January’s away victory over Sheffield United, but missed the next three matches.

On his return to the Etihad, Laporte was cool and composed at the back for 64 minutes, proven by his impressive 98.3% pass accuracy.

“I’m happy with the result and to be back on the pitch at the Etihad Stadium,” he said afterwards. “The people here push me to do a good job.”

“To be back playing at home, I’m happy with that. It was difficult for me being out of the team for this long time but I’m happy to be back with my teammates.”

The 25-year-old also spoke on City’s upcoming run of fixtures and whether he’s claiming the first goal of the evening against the Hammers.
