After a goalless first half in which City were frustrated, Mahrez broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute with a close-range finish which deflected off Lewis Dunk and over Robert Sanchez, following a superb run from Kevin De Bruyne.
Another deflection allowed the hosts to double the lead, with Foden nestling an effort in the bottom corner with a 20-yard striker that flicked off the leg of Enock Mwepu and wrongfooted Robert Sanchez in the Brighton goal.
Bernardo secured all three points eight minutes from time, curling a precise effort into the bottom left corner from the edge of the area after City punished the visitors for trying to play out from the back.
