Pep Guardiola’s side returned to the top of the table with a deserved victory at the Etihad Stadium, where Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva were on target as the boss claimed his 250th win in charge of the Club.
The two teams went in level at the break after City were frustrated after the break, but that quickly disappeared when Mahrez broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute.
Kevin De Bruyne was the architect, holding off two defenders on a surging before a deflection turned the ball into the Algerian’s path and his close-range finish beat Robert Sanchez via deflection off Lewis Dunk’s outstretched leg.
Foden doubled the lead minutes later with a 20-yard drive that flicked off the leg of Enock Mwepu and wrongfooted Robert Sanchez in the Brighton goal.
Bernardo completed the scoring eight minutes from time, picking out the bottom corner with a wonderful curling effort from the edge of the area after City punished the visitors for trying to play out from the back.
