City made a bright start and opened the scoring in the 12th minute, when Bernardo converted from close range after Nick Pope could only push Phil Foden’s low drive into the Portuguese midfielder’s path.
The hosts dominated the contest throughout, but saw several opportunities go begging, with Riyad Mahrez grazing the top of the crossbar, before De Bruyne struck to strengthen our grip on the match with 20 minutes remaining.
After Burnley failed to deal with the Belgian’s initial cross, City’s No.17 reacted quickest to arrow a loose ball into the far corner, preventing a tense finale against the stubborn Clarets.
