It was a goal worthy of winning any game and a goal which sealed a deserved victory for Pep Guardiola’s men, who controlled the contest throughout against a Chelsea side content to play on the counter-attack.

Thomas Tuchel’s side defended stubbornly to make life difficult for City in attack, though Jack Grealish went close to opening the scoring in the first half, only for Kepa Arrizabalaga to divert his low effort around the post.

Chelsea’s opportunities were limited, but Ederson made a fine save on the edge of his area to deny Romelu Lukaku with the scores goalless.
