The Belgian settled a tight contest with a moment of magic in the 70th minute, curling beyond Kepa Arrizabalaga from 25-yards to ensure Pep Guardiola’s side deservedly took all three points.
With Chelsea content for City to have the ball, the hosts controlled the game throughout and might have took the lead earlier only for a brilliant save from Kepa, which saw the Spaniard divert the midfielder’s low strike round the post with his thigh.
Thomas Tuchel’s side carried a threat on the counter-attack, but lacked the composure to truly worry City, although Ederson was forced into a fine stop from Romelu Lukaku when the scores were goalless.
