Manchester City’s John Stones, James McAtee, Matheus Nunes, Jill Roord and Lauren Hemp surprised unsuspecting youngsters at City in the Community’s (CITC) Soccer School camps across the summer.

Players spoke to participants, signed shirts and watched on as the participants showed the City stars their footballing skills.

Finley, one participant who was surprised by the arrival of City stars said:  “I really enjoyed playing football and making new friends.

“My favourite part was meeting all the players, especially John Stones, it was the best day ever and I can’t believe I got to experience it!”

Nunes also took time to share his journey into the professional footballing space with older participants.

Oliver, a participant who met Matheus said: “I met some new friends at the football camp which was nice. Then in the afternoon we were surprised by some players. Matheus was really nice and signed everyone’s shirts.”

Joseph, another participant who attended Kellogg’s Football Camps said: “I really enjoyed the soccer camp! It was amazing to meet the players and get my boot signed. My coaches were really nice too.”

The CITC Soccer Schools have been running throughout the summer holidays for young people aged 6-16 years and have provided a safe space for them to play football and keep active.

The free support is delivered in partnership with Manchester City Council’s Manchester Active.

New for summer 2024, Kellogg’s bolstered the charity’s Soccer Schools programme through the addition of its inaugural ‘Kellogg’s Football Camps’ programme.

The ‘Kellogg’s Football Camps’ programme, which is delivered nationwide with a number of UK football clubs, aims to keep children active and entertained during the school summer holidays.

Here in Manchester, Kellogg’s worked with CITC to deliver the camps at City Football Academy (CFA), helping to expand the charity’s existing holiday provision. In total, CITC engaged with 755 unique participants across 326 hours and 60 sessions of Soccer Schools and Kellogg’s sessions.

CITC’s Head of Fundraising and Partnerships, Sam Dainty, said: “We’ve been delivering free inclusive football sessions during the school holidays for decades now, with continued support from Manchester City Council.

“These sessions have been focused on targeting local children who need it the most and has been very impactful.

“Our new and exciting partnership with Kellogg’s is enabling the charity to widen and deepen this provision, ultimately impacting more and more young people.”

Throughout the summer Alex Williams MBE also visited the charity’s Soccer Schools to talk to participants and coaches, whilst also acknowledging the thousands of pounds which have been donated as part of the proceeds of his book, You Saw Me Standing Alone.
