With Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez’s departure, there may be opportunities for Foden to play in a more central position – though Guardiola says there will need to be fine tuning to play in City’s engine room more regularly.
“Phil can play in five positions from striker, left winger, right winger and in the middle,” said Pep.
“In the middle he needs to be more careful in many aspects and needs more time to understand what we need defensively but he can do something special.
“He is massively important. Maybe he can play more in that position, we will see.”
Guardiola also alluded to the next major target – attempting to become the first side to win the Premier League four times in succession.
“The Premier League is the most important and difficult,” he said.
“It’s so special. The trophy itself is the nicest.
“Burnley will be the first game, we are going to prepare to take the first three points. Step by step.”
