City went down to a first UEFA Champions League defeat of the season, losing out 2-0 at home to Bayer Leverkusen.
The fixture marked manager Pep Guardiola’s 100th Champions League game in charge of City.
But it proved to be a frustrating night for a City side showing 10 changes from last weekend’s Premier League loss at Newcastle.
Leverkusen had struck first, skipper Alejandro Grimaldo firing the Germans into a 23rd minute lead.
The visitors then doubled their lead nine minutes after the restart thanks to a Patrick Schick header.
City made several changes from the bench bringing on the likes of Erling Haaland, Phil Foden and Rayan Cherki.
But though the Blues created a number of good chances, the visitors held firm to claim the points.
