It’s 11 years to the day since our era-defining 6-1 Manchester derby victory over defending champions Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Having started the season well, Roberto Mancini’s team knew that this trip to our cross-city rivals would have a major bearing on whether we would go on to lift our first Premier League trophy.
It started well thanks to 22nd minute strike from Mario Balotelli. It got even better for the Blues immediately after half-time when Jonny Evans pulled down Balotelli and was sent off.
The Italian striker doubled the lead on the hour mark before Darren Fletcher pulled one back. Two from Edin Dzeko either side of a David Silva finish took the win from comfortable to unbelievable.
