But he was beaten by Antoine Semenyo in the ninth minute before Evanilson doubled Bournemouth’s advantage shortly after the hour mark.

Josko Gvardiol pulled a goal back with a stunning header and City pushed forward to try to get an equaliser.

Erling Haaland almost scrambled home an effort from close range and Phil Foden went close with virtually the last kick of the game.
