The City duo made their first team bows at the heart of defence for Pep Guardiola’s men, facing up against experienced Chairboys forward Adebayo Akinfenwa.
Renowned for his physical prowess, Akinfenwa pushed our young blues to their limits before being substituted but the defensive pair, as well as fellow debutants in the back four CJ Egan-Riley and Josh Wilson-Esbrand, coped well with the 39-year-old and his teammates under the Etihad lights.
Reflecting on that first experience of senior football, Mbete was pleased with how he and his centre-back partner handled the test.

“I think we coped with it very well. We’re young but we didn’t take that into consideration,” he said.
“We played like it was a normal game. The players and the fans helped us a lot, they were brilliant. And obviously the support from (Pep Guardiola) as well and the staff behind the scenes.
Burns agreed with his teammates’ assessment, and paid tribute to the influence the fans had on his first team debut.
He added: “The fans bring excitement and encouragement to keep going and make everyone proud.
“It’s the best thing to hear them all cheer, especially when a goal goes in, it gives you the confidence to get another.
“It’s a dream come true to play in front of them. It’s what dreams are made of!”
