In Mexico City, young leaders including Aileen in Valle de Chalco and Brenda at El Coyolito are building flood-resilient communities and tackling water scarcity.

It is estimated that about 70% of the city has less than 12 hours of running water available per day, whilst 50% of the floods in Mexico City are due to obstructed drains.

Reflecting on the impact of the football and water project in Valle de Chalco, Aileen said: “I like that through football we can raise awareness, especially with the children, as they are the model that future generations will follow.

“We start with the basics, such as not throwing rubbish on the streets to avoid contamination.

“Water is very important, because water is life, so we have to take care of it and take responsibility for our environment.”

This Cityzens Giving project is delivered in partnership with love.fútbol.
