Manchester City and global appliance partner Midea have continued their commitment to community development in Africa by delivering Young Leader training in Lagos, Nigeria.

Delivered with the support of local charity FAME Foundation and City in the Community (CITC) coaches, the training brings together inspiring young people to learn and grow both on and off the pitch.

The training sessions combined football-based activities with workshops focused on teamwork, social impact, and leadership to equip Young Leaders with the skills to make a meaningful impact in their communities.

Reflecting on their experience, Iloanya, a Young Leader from Lagos, said: “Being a Young Leader is about more than football, it’s about learning how to guide others, support young people, and create a positive space for everyone to grow.”

Midea’s support ensures these spaces are welcoming and inclusive, donating home appliances that help create comfortable environments where Young Leaders can thrive and feel at home.

The initiative forms part of wider commitment from Midea and City to empower youth across Africa with four other community football projects taking place Johannesburg, Luanda, Nairobi and Rabat.

Through interactive discussions, group exercises, and practical sessions, the Lagos training addressed key social challenges while highlighting the ongoing work of FAME Foundation to advance the wellbeing of women and girls through sport.

Since inception in 2017, FAME Foundation has reached over 40,000 women, girls and young people across Nigeria through sport, education, and community programmes. Their ‘Play it Dream it’ initiative uses sports, especially football and life-skills sessions, to empower girls and vulnerable youth, while also providing scholarships, mentorship, and safe-space activities. They work in schools, IDP camps, and conflict-affected communities, to ensure young people have opportunities to develop leadership, confidence and resilience.

Together, City and Midea are committed to helping young people feel at home by creating safe, supportive, and educational spaces for young people across Africa.
