Playing at left-back throughout the 2-0 win over Napoli at the Etihad Stadium, our Academy graduate helped Pep Guardiola’s side to a clean sheet as we began our League Phase pursuit with three points.
After the Italian champions were reduced to 10 players in the first half, the score remained goalless heading into the interval before goals from Erling Haaland – his 50th in the competition – and Jeremy Doku sealed the success.
It means City have won back-to-back games since the conclusion of September’s international break, and O’Reilly is aiming to carry the momentum into our seismic Premier League meeting with Arsenal on Sunday.
“I enjoyed it a lot, it was a special night,” he said.
“To play in the Champions League, the highest competition and biggest level so it was amazing.
“They [my family] were all here to watch and they’re super proud. It’s always important to start off with a win in the competition, it puts us in a good place.
“Also to get a clean sheet. Going into the weekend we’ve got momentum and we’ll just do our best [against Arsenal].”
