Matheus Nunes has praised the Club's Academy talent after six graduates from the youth team starred in our 2-1 Carabao Cup third round victory over Watford.

16-year-old Kaden Braithwaite was handed his first-team debut, whilst Phil Foden, Rico Lewis, James McAtee and Nico O’Reilly also started, with Jacob Wright featuring off the bench at the Etihad Stadium.

McAtee was heavily involved in the opener, pinching the ball back high up the pitch before feeding Jack Grealish, who set up Jeremy Doku to strike us ahead.

Lewis was at the heart of the second, driving with the ball before finding Nunes, who drilled into the bottom corner expertly to double our lead.

Tom Ince scored a sublime late goal to pull one back for the visitors, but Nunes’ strike proved to be the winner. The Portuguese, who claimed his first goal for the Club, paid tribute to the young talent on the pitch.

“Of course it’s a special day for him [Braithwaite] as well. He made his debut,” he said. Also, not only him, but the other kids from the Academy.

“It’s very important to showcase the talent that we’ve got. I’m just very happy for them, everybody tried to help them as much as we can, especially the guys with more experience.

“They’ve done very good and I’m very happy for them.”
