Paul Dickov has described Atletico Madrid as one of the best defensive teams in Europe ahead of our Champions League quarter-final first leg.

Pep Guardiola’s men welcome the Spanish champions to the Etihad Stadium for a 20:00 (UK) kick-off before facing off at the Wanda Metropolitano on Wednesday 13 April.

It will be a stern test of City’s credentials, with Diego Simeone’s side coming into the clash off the back of a hard-fought 2-1 aggregate win over Manchester United.

But Dickov insists our two-legged tie will offer a completely different proposition, believing City are well-equipped to face Diego Simeone’s men.

“Atletico over the past few years have defensively been one of the best teams in Europe, it’s going to be a test for City but one we’re used to,” he explained.

“Every team we play set us defensively and make it hard for us to break down but what we usually do, regardless of the personnel, is find a way (to win).

“It wouldn’t be the end of the world if we went to Madrid without a lead.

“Having the away goals rule cancelled out makes a huge difference in how teams will play. We all want to win the game here at the Etihad, but if it’s a draw I’d still fancy City.”
