Pep Guardiola hopes that Kalvin Phillips can recover from his injury problems after moving to Sheffield United on loan.

The 30-year-old, whose only appearance this season came in the Carabao Cup back in September, returned to training shortly before completing a move to Bramall Lane.

Guardiola says that everyone at the Club is hoping he can get back to his best form and says the midfielder deserves to.

“He trained [in the] last days because he was injured in the previous,” the City boss said at his press conference ahead of our Carabao Cup clash with Newcastle on Wednesday at 20:00 (UK).

“He needs minutes to recover his best. He has to play, he made some loans. How he is as a guy everyone is desperate for him to come back, play minutes and be at his best because he deserves it.

“Most of the times it was setbacks for injuries. He had long injuries - first with his shoulder then his knees, ankles, hamstring. Struggled with that but not just Kalvin but if you cannot play its more difficult.”
