Pep Guardiola lavished praise on Nico O’Reilly after his Player of the Match performance in the impressive 2-1 win over Newcastle.

O’Reilly bagged the opener with a masterful 20-yard strike from distance.

Lewis Hall levelled for the Magpies but O’Reilly headed home the winner from a delicious Erling Haaland cross from the right.

The versatile 20-year has been a sensation this season, playing in multiple roles throughout the campaign and excelling in central midfield of late, a role he grew up playing in the Academy.

Guardiola is certainly a fan and praised the starlet, who has six goals in total this season and four in the Premier League.

“He’s played full back, played holding midfielder when Rodri was not there, now he’s in his position,” he told the media.

“I know the pace he has. What a player.

“He has made an incredible step up and he has had a lot of minutes.

“But he deserves it.”
