Pep Guardiola was pleased with the performance of City in the 0-0 draw with Sunderland but bemoaned his side not finding the finishing touch at the Stadium of Light.

The Blues had a host of opportunities to pick up three points, with Bernardo having a goal ruled out for offside with further fine efforts for Erling Haaland, Savinho, Jeremy Doku and Josko Gvardiol in an entertaining game where the Black Cats also played their part.

Guardiola said the display from his team was superior to the one they put in during the 2-1 defeat of Nottingham Forest but he was frustrated they couldn’t make their chances count.

“We created a lot,” he said post-match.

“I don’t know if a team was able to come here and create what we created.

“They had an offside and Erling had one or two. They had some transitions because our shape was not correct, the second half Rodri helped us and when you are five, six, seven times in the six yard box and cannot do it, that was the only thing missing.

“But we played miles better than Nottingham Forest and today we could not win.

“Now it’s recovery because we have two days to the Chelsea game and we go for it.”
