Pep Guardiola says the makeup of Manchester City’s squad could change if players are no longer prepared to accept not playing every week.

Guardiola has used all of his senior players this season in order to manage the cramped fixture schedule which comes with fighting for silverware on four fronts, which means no one is guaranteed to play every week.

The City boss has no doubts about the ability of any of his squad, but acknowledges some players can reach a point where they want guaranteed playing time and he says that can lead to departures.

“What I believe is all the players we have deserve to stay here for many years because their quality is exceptional,” he explained ahead of the trip to Arsenal.

“But year by year it changes because some players accept their role and some don’t. It is not about the quality. It is about accepting sometimes you don’t play.

“Sometimes for a short time they can and sometimes they cannot for longer, so these players have to leave. That’s why these players have to be removed.

“We are all together and everyone is involved - but there are players, for age, the personality they are, the education they have, they accept all the roles. Others don’t.

“When they play they are perfect but when they don’t, there is a problem. These players have to think, they have to reflect, speak to their agent and the Club and decide what is best for themselves especially and the Club as well.

“Next season we don’t know what will happen. Now is not the moment. I don’t think one second about this, that’s why Txiki is here.”
