Pep Guardiola was thrilled to collect three points to send our travelling faithful home happy following the 4-1 win at Bournemouth.

Efforts from Julian Alvarez, Erling Haaland, Phil Foden and a Chris Mepham own-goal ensured a comfortable victory at the Vitality Stadium.

The boss spent more time than normal applauding the sky blues fans after the final whistle because of the effort taken to head to the south coast to watch the team they love.

Guardiola said there is no better feeling than seeing the smiles on their faces post-match.

And, after thanking them straight after the game, he did the same again as he spoke to the press in his media briefing.

On the extra time spent clapping supporters, he said: “We spoke about that in the locker room.

“We have to stay there longer because they are five, six hours to get here and for their contribution to get here we can only give our respect that they deserve.

“You see their faces and how happy they are when we win so you produce a good feeling for them and their families.

“Tell me something else that can be better than that and that’s why our supporters away are incredible.

“Thank you again for coming, safe trip back home and we see you soon.”

As well as the quality shown, what was noticeable was the industry and effort from Guardiola’s team throughout the 90 minutes – even when well ahead in the late stages of the second half.

Guardiola was not surprised and said this was a minimum requirement when playing for City, especially when performing in front of the away support.

He added: “They would be in trouble if they didn’t do it.

“When the fans come five, six hours to come here, pay for a ticket, on less than our salaries, we have to run even if the result is 3-0, 4-0, 5-0.

“Good controls, bad controls, score goals, don’t score goals. Defend well or bad.

“But effort in this Club since I was here and will be here, never will be put in doubt. Never ever.”
