Pep Guardiola says Brentford are the best team from set pieces he has ever faced.

City were 3-1 winners at the Gtech Community Stadium on Monday night thanks to Phil Foden’s second career hat-trick.

Our Academy graduate’s three goals came after the hosts had taken the lead midway through the first half due to a Neal Maupay finish.

Brentford 1-3 City | Match report

Having lost both Premier League matches against Brentford in 2022/23, Guardiola knew the threats our opponents would pose tonight.

We’ll face the same side again in a fortnight when they travel to the Etihad for the fixture that was rearranged because of our successful participation in the FIFA Club World Cup.

Guardiola expects another tough match that night.

“They are so difficult, they are an incredible team,” said Guardiola.

“We can just imagine how difficult it will be in a few weeks when we come back to the Etihad for our game in hand.

“A really tough opponent - I never saw a team in the set-pieces, corners, free-kicks, throw-ins. I’ve never seen a better team than this one.

“I think we deserve it but we were lucky to score too on the verge of half-time.”
