Pep Guardiola pointed to the rock-solid qualities of City’s defence as a defining factor in our 1-0 win over Brighton.

Marshalled expertly by central defensive duo Ruben Dias and John Stones, City secured another clean sheet and withstood some fierce Brighton pressure late on.

And as he reflected on a fourth successive league win – and seventh in all competitions – Guardiola said City’s iron-clad defence was having a huge impact and added that Brighton had provided a timely challenge.

“Definitely - Ruben and John again were really good,” said the boss.

“John made an incredible tackle late on when we lost the ball.

“In general, it is another clean sheet and therefore a big effort by everyone not just the back four.

“It was the best thing that could happen to us today, struggling in the last 10 or 15 minutes of the game.

“Today we only concede one good chance and a few crosses but nothing really clear and that means a lot for us.”
