Pep Guardiola says he and his City players go into each season driven by a desire to get even better.

City made history last term by becoming the first English club to win four titles in-a-row, but the boss says that doesn’t mean they can’t improve.

He is expecting another tough battle with our Premier League rivals and says the challenge is for everyone at the Etihad to keep trying to build on what has already been achieved.

Small improvements could be the difference between winning or missing out on silverware and that starts on Sunday when we face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge at 16:30 (UK).

Both league games with the Londoners last season ended in draws and Guardiola says trying to beat them is an early opportunity to make an improvement.

“When you conquer the Premier League like we conquered it, last season everyone wanted to beat us in every stadium in the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup, the Premier League especially, and the Champions League, of course, is a little bit different,” he said.

“It’s normal, so we look at ourselves and see what we can do better. What can we do better as a team?

“Always you can improve, always you have the desire to individually be better.

“I want to be a better manager, and the players want to be better individually.

“If we increase everyone a little bit on our weaknesses, we will increase 11 players and we will be 11 times - our strength will be 11 times better. This is the target that we have to be focused on.

“That will help us to stay there again and again.

“When we arrive in the last month, close to winning another Premier League, that will be the motivation. But now, the motivation to win another Premier League is not there. For me, it is not there. It will be there in the last month.

“Now, it’s can we beat Chelsea. Last season, we did not beat them. Can we practice these two or three weeks together? Apply better and improve?

“It will not be a perfect game against Chelsea. We are not completely in our top form. It’s normal, but the standard will be enough to win the game, that is the point.”
