Pep Guardiola says the forthcoming international break will help bring John Stones back up to full match sharpness.

The City central defender has sat out the first three Premier League games of the season so far after being afflicted by a leg injury shortly after his return from his summer break.

He was an unused substitute on Saturday as City signed off ahead of the season’s first international break with a superb 5-0 win over Arsenal.

But with Stones part of the England squad selected for World Cup qualifier against Hungary, Andorra and Poland, the City boss believes the games will prove positive both for Stones and the Club.

“John arrived late (after the Euros) and after we came back for the second game he had a problem with his leg, he was injured,” Guardiola revealed.

“So, this week was the first week that he started training. Ruben and Aymeric have played (in the centre of defence).

“It will be good. He can go to the international team and hopefully they can take care of him, and he can take care of himself.

“It will be important to maintain the training sessions he needs, the rhythm, and playing with the national team will be good for us.”
