Pep Guardiola says he’s ‘loved’ what he’s seen from Jack Grealish so far in pre-season as the 2024/25 campaign comes into focus.

The skilful winger has participated in the entirety of the Club’s preparations for the upcoming campaign which included our tour of the United States of America.

Across our period stateside in July and August, the England international started all four assignments and played a starring role in our penalties defeat to Barcelona – scoring a wonderful goal in the 2-2 draw in regulation time.

It follows the 2023/24 season where he was limited to nine league starts in 20 Premier League appearances overall, while scoring three goals and registering three goals in all competitions as he navigated injuries across the term.

And Guardiola has challenged Grealish to maintain the high standards he’s shown in training so far across the season.

“What I’ve seen so far here, one week in the pre-season on tour, I loved it,” he declared.

“I don’t care how he performs, it’s every session his commitment and his trying, against Barcelona he made five or six shots, he was aggressive with the ball, that’s all, after that his quality will do the rest.

“I know he’ll be a father soon and we’re so happy for that. All I ask of the players is that - you like to play football, yes, so play.

“Hopefully he can sustain it until the end of the season and like the rest compete with everyone for one place in the starting XI, that depends on him.

“What I see in behaviours, in training and how you’re performing, as well as you do the more chance you have.”
