Pep Guardiola says the tight nature of the way the Premier League title race is shaping up is nothing less than he expected.

In the wake of our 3-2 loss to Spurs last weekend allied to successive victories for Liverpool, City’s lead at the top of the table has narrowed to three points with both sides having played 26 games.

However, addressing the media ahead of Saturday’s latest league test away to Everton, the City manager said the competitive nature of this season’s quest for supremacy was simply more proof about how demanding the Premier League title race always is.

“It looks a little bit ridiculous that I have to say this. Never when we were champions it was in November, December and January,” Guardiola stressed.

“We saw Wolves v Arsenal (on Thursday), how intense it was, how they fought. We knew it.

“We say ‘OK’ and try and win the next game and that is all. I knew it before, it’s not a surprise to me. The rivals are so good.

“I am more than delighted to be in the position we are. Here today we are where we are.”
