Pep Guardiola has thanked many of his former players for their role in City’s progress to the FIFA Club World Cup final.

City take on Fluminense in the showpiece event at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Saudi Arabia at 18:00 (UK) on Friday.

Ahead of that game, our squad met up with former team-mate Riyad Mahrez in Jeddah for dinner on Wednesday night.

Fluminense scout report

The Algerian won 11 major honours at City in five seasons but now plys his trade in Saudi Arabia, having joined Jeddah-based Al-Ahli in the summer.

Speaking in post-match press conference, Guardiola remarked on his joy to see Mahrez again and thanked the winger as well as the other summer departees for their role in recent campaigns, including last year’s Treble.

“It was a lovely night to see Riyad here and for him to have dinner with us. It was cool,”

“Him, [Aymeric] Laporte, [Cole] Palmer, [Ilkay] Gundogan, they were an incredible part of the success we had for many years.

“Unfortunately he cannot attend the game because he has a game but we have incredible memories and he helped us a lot.

“It was a good decision for him in the last years of his career and we wish him all the best.”

The final will be live on TNT Sports and FIFA+ for those following from the UK. For fans outside of the UK, click here to find out how you can watch.
