Pep Guardiola believes Leicester City manager Dean Smith could have a ‘massive’ impact on his new side ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium.

City host the Foxes in Saturday’s 17:30 (UK) kick-off looking to extend our winning run to ten in all competitions and close the gap on league leaders Arsenal to three points for 24 hours at least.

Standing in our way is a Leicester side who find themselves in unfamiliar territory - the thick of a Premier League relegation battle.

The 2016 champions appointed Dean Smith earlier this week until the end of the season, and Guardiola believes the former Aston Villa and Norwich City manager could provide an important boost to the Foxes’ survival prospects.

“It is not easy, we know from experience,” the boss said of facing his Leicester counterpart.

“First of all I am really happy he is back. The first time we played against Aston Villa and Norwich and I know from Jack [Grealish] how exceptional a person he is and the good vibes he creates.

“That will help Leicester right now. It’s always uncomfortable as I didn’t see one way or the other [in Smith’s play].

“We will have to adapt in the first 15 minutes because I don’t know what they will do.

“I’m pretty sure when you have a new manager in this situation, his impact on Leicester will be massive.”
