Pep Guardiola said he was proud of the character demonstrated by City in overcoming the challenge of a fired-up Leyton Orient to secure a 2-1 FA Cup fourth round win in east London.

The League One hosts had threatened a shock after taking a first half lead through a Stefan Ortega Moreno own goal after a Jamie Donley shot had rattled back off the bar and in off the keeper.

City also lost new signing Nico Gonzalez who was forced off on 15 minutes after hurting himself in a challenge prior to Orient’s opener.

It was a tough scenario but, as so often, City regrouped and hit back in fine fashion after the break.

We first drew level when a Rico Lewis shot was deflected in off the back of substitute Abdukodir Khusanov.

And then fellow sub Kevin De Bruyne sealed the deal by superbly slotting home a fine Jack Grealish assist 10 minutes from time.

“I don’t know if every game in League One or Two is like this, but it was really good. The locker room was so tight, and the players can talk more,” Pep said.

WHEN IS THE FA CUP FIFTH ROUND DRAW?

“I said to the players before that all of us, we came from here. We didn’t wake up at 16, 17, 18, 19 years old and go to Wembley.

“We were born in these locker rooms. I like especially when we play at the lower divisions, the way we behave

“If you don’t behave properly, how many surprises have there been in the FA Cup?

“Except Wigan when we play a lot of minutes 10v11, the rest all the time we were there. We play good games in difficult environments.

“Now we are a little bit unstable emotionally, we have a lot of injuries. That’s why going through in these results makes me so proud and so happy.”
