Pep Guardiola has said his weekend tactics will revolve around the players he has available against Liverpool.

Guardiola confirmed that Phil Foden will be out for two to three weeks while Erling Haaland will be assessed ahead of kick-off.

The City boss stressed that ‘the tactics are the skills of every player’ as he pondered who to select against the Reds for the 12.30 (UK) kick-off on Saturday.

“Football is the quality of the players,” Guardiola told the press in his pre-match media briefing.

“When you play with the typical players that you need, the tactics are the skills of every player.

“Haaland has his skills. Julian has his own skills. He gives us one thing, [someone else] gives another one.

“[If we] play with a False 9, it is another skill. It depends.

“We saw the people come back yesterday from the international break. We could not do much.

“We will see today the last assessment and then we will decide.”

The big City Weekender

Despite Foden being unavailable and Haaland touch and go for Saturday, Guardiola has been pleased with the availability of his players this term.

He added: “We have incredible physical trainers, doctors, physios and sports scientists.

“They control perfectly the players. We have, all season, had mainly all the squad ready. But you can have period with lot of injuries.

“But in general I am happy, [we] arrive until the end of the season with mainly all the players available.

“Everyone is involved. Everyone has to be involved. We will see what happens.”
