Pep Guardiola looked ahead to Sunday’s trip to Liverpool by urging City to replicate our form from the past two games, performances which he said made him ‘happier than ever’.

A superb all-round display away at Chelsea last weekend saw Guardiola’s side record a magnificent 1-0 win.

Then in midweek despite slipping to a 2-0 Champions League loss away at Paris Saint-Germain, City again performed with great distinction.

And addressing the media ahead of this weekend’s huge trip to Anfield, the boss revealed how happy he had been with the manner of our last two performances.

“The way we played the last two games makes me so satisfied with what we have done,” Guardiola declared.

“Obviously, when we won the Premier League I am happy but in this period when we have had injuries and Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne trained for just two weeks, the level and consistency in those two games is so good. That’s why I am happier than ever.

“But it’s not about comparing to the past. We have to try and do it again. I know where the team comes from.

“Last season it’s hard to do better but we have seen details that say we are still there after six years together. It makes me so proud.

“Words cannot express my sense of gratitude and my compliments at the way we played those two games. This is the target.”
