Pep Guardiola says City’s superb defensive record has helped play a crucial role in our rise up to second place in the Premier League table.

The City defence have been in inspired form over the past two months in particular, conceding just three goals in our last 15 games across all competitions, and 17 clean sheets overall.

With Guardiola’s side also finding the target from all areas of the field, the boss believes the fact that all elements of our collective game are coming into in sharp focus has been vital as the race for the title hots up.

“It’s really good (to keep clean sheets),” Guardiola declared as he looked ahead to Wednesday’s latest Premier League game at home to Aston Villa.

“You cannot win titles if you do not play good and don’t score goals up front, like we did at the beginning of the season.

“We have been solid and conceded few except against Leicester. We have conceded few chances similar to last season.

“The difference is we have not made mistakes like we did in the past. You need to be good in set pieces, good up front, good defensively.

“Many things help to be a champion, when one or two drop a little bit it is difficult.”
