Pep Guardiola has praised Everton’s strong defensive capabilities under Sean Dyche ahead of our Boxing Day bout.

City welcome the Toffees to the Etihad Stadium on Thursday 26 December aiming to bounce back from our narrow 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa last time out in the 12:30 (UK) kick-off.

The Merseyside outfit, meanwhile, have recorded respective battling 0-0 draws with Arsenal then Chelsea in each of their last two Premier League assignments.

It means Everton are at the top of the division’s clean sheet chart with seven, alongside Liverpool, heading into the meeting in Manchester.

And Guardiola says Everton’s work rate on and off the ball makes them difficult opponents in our latest league assignment.

“Sean Dyche teams always have a really good defensive structure, really good patterns defensively and offensively,” the Blues boss explained.

“If they can do it against Arsenal and Chelsea it means they are really good. They have good transitions and of course set-pieces and long balls, they are really strong.

“They are maybe fifth across the top five league in Europe, they’re one of the best in terms of clean sheets. It means they work really well.”
