Guardiola believes our league form will have a direct impact on how we fare in knockout competition and is adamant his players cannot let their standards drop in the final few games.

“Now, until the game against Arsenal, we have a lot of games, we have a lot of time to think about it,” he said ahead of Liverpool’s visit to the Etihad Stadium.

“Tomorrow is an important game. We want to do a good performance and try to take a result and thinking about Southampton and arriving against Arsenal and Madrid in the best conditions.

“The best condition to play against these important teams, is to play good in the Premier League and qualify for the Champions League.”

The boss also discussed how he will respond to Liverpool’s challenge and Leroy Sane’s future.
