Pep Guardiola believes that City v Liverpool cannot be compared to Real Madrid v Barcelona.

‘El Clasico’ – regarded as perhaps the world’s biggest game in club football – has spanned many decades and attracts millions of viewers on television worldwide.

City’s epic tussles with Liverpool, says the Blues’ boss, are a relatively recent rivalry and though the game will attract a huge global TV audience, it cannot be compared to the La Liga rivals’ clash.

“It’s different,” says Guardiola.

“If you compare Barcelona and Real Madrid, Manchester City was never in the past contenders (with them).

“Liverpool, in the last seasons since I’ve been here, they have been our best rivals.

“This is the reality. We are still there. Big compliment for Liverpool and City we are both there.”
