Pep Guardiola says Manchester City and Liverpool have set new standards of success in the Premier League in recent years.

The two sides have dominated the division over the last four seasons, with City crowned champions on three occasions and Liverpool lifting the title in 2019/20.

Both teams have set numerous records in that period and Guardiola is certain our battle for success with Jurgen Klopp’s men has redefined what is required to be successful in England’s top tier.

“What is sure is that Liverpool and City in the last years, we have raised the bar, we have raised the targets the Premier League had before,” he said ahead of Sunday’s showdown at the Etihad Stadium.

“We have pushed each other a lot and I think they other teams have realised they have to push more to chase us.

“In the last five years, one year we were a little bit out, last season they had injuries and Manchester United were there, but both teams in the last five years, we were there fighting between each other.”
