It means City have already started working to correct issues identified this season and Guardiola has been impressed with what he has seen.

“I sleep better when we win than when we lose and that is the same for all managers,” he said at his pre-match press conference ahead of Newcastle’s visit to the Etihad Stadium.

“I love to review the game, especially when we have lost and see what the feeling is. Is it the same [feeling] that I had during in the game or completely different?

“I have the feeling that we are working on it and it’s going well. We are working on some departments and we are improving.”

Guardiola also discussed John Stones’ fortunes, the emerging partnership between Aymeric Laporte and Eric Garcia and being more clinical in front of goal.
