Pep Guardiola was pleased with players’ reaction after Manchester City returned from a 16-day break from competitive action with a comfortable 2-0 win over West Ham United.

The defending champions were rarely troubled at the Etihad Stadium, where Rodrigo and Kevin De Bruyne scored in a contest in which Ederson was not required to make a save.

Having been happy with his side’s performance in the recent defeats to Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, Guardiola was glad City were rewarded with three points against David Moyes’ Hammers.

“I think the way we played showed we are there,” he said.

“We played well against United and we lost. We played even better against Tottenham and we lost.

“Today was clear. We created many chances. I am satisfied for many reasons.  After the winter break it was about how we were going to react.

The team is incredible. In the bad moments our performances are good and that makes me so happy.”
