Pep Guardiola says Phil Foden is ready for the Manchester derby..

The boyhood City fan has featured in two Manchester derbies as a substitute, coming on in the 86th and 89th minutes of matches City won 3-1 on each occasion.

In fact, the 19-year-old has never lost a game he’s played against the Reds at either Under-18 or Under-23 level, winning three and drawing three in total and scoring twice.

After his stellar performance in the Carabao Cup final against Aston Villa, the City boss says Foden is ready to face United – if selected.

“He is with us because he is ready to play in all stages,” said Pep. “He is ready.”

The Catalan also says that the fact Raheem Sterling has never scored against Manchester United makes it more likely he will end that run the next time he faces them.

Asked if he thought that going 16 games without a goal against the Reds might be playing on Raheem’s mind, he said: “Normally what happens is that after 16 games without scoring against United, you are closer to scoring against United.

“I love the Manchester derby, it’s always special.

“It was a good month for us after the little break that we had.

“We had West Ham at home, Leicester away, Real Madrid and then the final of the Carabao Cup.

“We know how difficult these games are. I think we did well. Still we are not in summer. There are a lot of games still to play and this is a game we are going to play and try to win.”
