Pep Guardiola says City must have courage, intelligence and full focus if we are to defeat Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

City face the La Liga outfit on Tuesday night in the first leg of our European quarter-final tie, seeking a strong advantage to take to the Spanish capital next week.

Bernardo Silva revealed in Monday’s press conference the Premier League Champions have a plan in place and while Guardiola laughed that it had not yet been discussed in detail, the City boss agreed his side will have a specific approach the game, calling upon the squad to utilise our collective strengths both on the pitch and off it.

Bernardo says we have a plan but we still haven’t spoken about the plan!” he smiled. “He knows me and he knows I have a plan in my mind.

“In this competition, I learned that a plan is important. Don’t give space, don’t give an inch. Defend when you need to defend, attack when you can do it.

“We need courage and intelligent decisions and that belongs to the players. I put a lot of pressure on them for these games.

“They are the guys who have to win or lose the game so go out there and try to do it. They have done it many times and hopefully, tomorrow we can perform well.”
